Sunday 4th September 2022 After a very soggy start things quickly got under way. Once you’re wet.. you’re wet… so I guess you don’t feel it any more and competitors and ponies soon filled the show rings. The In-Hand classes went swimmingly (no pun intended) and after a bit of deliberation our In-Hand Judge Mrs Gilean Docherty and Probationer judge Mrs Catriona Lackie soon presented Hamish Cameron and his Broodmare - Maydew of Turin Hill with the In-Hand Champion. The Reserve Champion going to Jean Ralston and her 2 year old colt - Moss-side Dark Lochnagar, who also won the Best Youngstock. This was swiftly followed by The Highland Pony Society Youngstock Chamionship – (Scotland) where any youngstock Champion from any HPS affiliated show throughout the year came forward to be judged the overall youngstock Champion. This prestigious class was judged by Mr Andrew Baird who decided that 3 year old filly Moss-side Crathie owned by Willie and Jean Ralston took Champion before presenting 3 year old Fourmerk Alexandra owned by Joan Alexander with the reserve Champion. This led into another distinguished class the CSHPC Champion of Champions Grand Final where any previous Champion or Reserve Champion from shows throughout the previous year competed to be crowned the overall Champion. This class was judged by Mrs Mary McCall-Smith who selected the Champion Hamish Cameron and his Broodmare - Maydew of Turin Hill before selecting the yeld mare Trailtrow Tianavaig owned by Gillian McMurray as Reserve Champion. The ridden classes were also well underway and our ridden judge Ms Marjorie Grant decided the Novice Champion was Trailtrow Tianavaig – ridden by Kirstin McMurray with the Reserve Novice Champion going to Maxwell of Millfield and Joanna Jack. The ridden Open Champion was then presented to Trailtrow Gracie –ridden by Jackie Coull with the Reserve Open Champion going to Trowan Patrick - Kerry Richardson. The overall ridden championship then going to Trailtrow Tianavaig – ridden by Kirstin McMurray with the Reserve overall Champion going to Maxwell of Millfield and Joanna Jack. This was also followed by the Ridden Champion of Champions Final, which saw Maxwell of Millfield and Joanna Jack take Champion. Our Junior Classes were very well supported this year and it was delightful to see the future lifeblood of our beautiful breed compete in these classes. The judge for this years show was Mrs Carolyn Munro who selected the Junior Tack & Turnout winner as Keira Fraser and her gelding Gleann Mharic of Rynuan. The young Handler prize went to Phoebe Eason and her Gelding Gille of Croila whilst the young rider prize was presented to Isla Troup and the mare Strathearn Bracken Mist. The sun did eventually come out and the Working Hunter classes were blessed with the dry weather allowing the judges Mrs Carolyn Munro and Miss Heather Keron to select the WH Champion as Trowan Patrick ridden by Kerry Richardson and WH Reserve Champion as Carrick Lady lunna ridden by Jane Mcculloch. Judging was then underway for the Supreme Champion where the in-hand judge Mrs Gilean Docherty and ridden Judge Ms Marjory Grant were unable to agree on their overall Champion, so calling on the Umpire Mrs Mary McCall-Smith she decided that the Supreme Champion of the show was the in-Hand Champion Hamish Cameron and his Broodmare - Maydew of Turin Hill. And the reserve Supreme Champion was the ridden Champion Trailtrow Tianavaig and Kirstin McMurray. We aren’t quite done there either.. who said Highland ponies can’t dance.. Our well supported Dressage competition saw competitors compete in Intro, Prelim and Novice classes with great scores and comments from our judge Catriona Armstrong. The winner of the Intro class being Shirley Clarke and her young mare Kershope Breagh. The prelim winner was Jackie Coull with her mare Trailtrow Gracie and the Novice winner and overall dressage winner was Adrienne Taylor and her gelding Tarquin of forglen. A huge big thank you to everyone who came out to support our show. The judges, stewards, helpers and very generous sponsors.
